Most people today in business are faced with some tough choices and challenges. You would not be reading this page if did not have some your own challenges to face.
One of the most important challenge most of us are facing today is job security. We are faced with the prospect of losing our jobs or our businesses, business has decreased, we are not busy and in most cases our personal lives are affected. As a result there is tremendous pressure to change how we are responding. Education and knowledge are just not enough; we need to develop new management and leadership skills and we need to work on our personal development to be able respond effectively and appropriately not only at work but also in our personal lives.
A very big challenge, especially in the corporate climate is being able to keep up. There is tremendous competition. There is pressure to work harder, longer and faster. Many have resorted to the use of medications and other outside sources to help us be calm and focused. Unfortunately, many of these helpers, have side effects which eventually worsen the issues we had problems with in the first place.
Many people have problems with concentration which can be caused by stress. In most cases these problems are caused by the culture. We learn how not to pay attention and if this is the case then we can learn how to pay attention.
People are having problems being affected by fellow workers who are negative and angry. Many have good intentions but are finding it increasingly difficult not to be affected.
The question facing us is whether we can rise to the challenge? Can we be resilient? My answer to you is, yes, you can because many of my clients have and I have. Believe it or not, if you decide that are prepared to take on this challenge, you can discover new things about yourself that you thought was never possible.
Sixteen years ago, I had to make some tough decisions and began to learn how to change the way I responded to life. Since that time my life has been very good. There have been challenges along the way and there will continue to be so, but now I respond to these challenges more appropriately. Especially in these tough times, the new skills I have acquired have helped me to be resilient, positive and motivated. In this state of mind I can see the new opportunities.
I often refer to the game of golf in my coaching, as an analogy to life. I started playing golf at a young age but was never that good until I applied what I have learned for the past 11 years as a coach. I realized that I did not have to stop playing golf, I just needed to change how I played the game. The same applies to how we do business. If it is not working then we need to change how we conduct business. We are in an exciting time of change and if each one of us is to survive then we need to change how we respond life.
The HeartSmart program focuses on learning new management/leadership skills and on personal development. If a person commits to this simple, practical and logical program they will respond more effectively, efficiently and appropriately in the business climate. A person can learn how to become more resilient, more calm, more motivated, more confident, more focused and have more energy. As a result a person will be more aware and understanding of people and situations. They will be able to have a better perspective on the bigger picture and be able to make better decisions.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? So what’s the catch? Time and practice! Just like the golf game, it will take practice to become proficient at what you are doing. You practice until what you are doing becomes an automatic response. The HeartSmart program will guide you through this process of change.
The HeartSmart program is not about fixing nor is it about giving tips and suggestions. It is not magical, mystical or theoretical. It is not about taking a pill and hoping it will go away. It is a practical and logical program based upon practical experience.
The HeartSmart program is about learning how to respond with strength, knowledge, self confidence and wisdom. It is more than just functioning.
Experience
After I graduated from university, I took a job in sales and sales management for one of the largest Insurance Companies in Canada. This was probably one of the best decisions I made as this experience was invaluable and contributed immensely to my interpersonal skills. After completing the management training, I was offered the opportunity to run my families small business as general manager and president. I jumped at this offer because it would give me valuable experience in all areas of business such as purchasing, negotiations, management , accounting and corporate leadership. We sold the business and I took a position as the Director of Trade and Development and as the Harbour Master for a Port Authority. Once again I gained valuable experience working in a semi government atmosphere. After five years I decided to move to Switzerland with my Swiss wife to take on a new challenge of living in a different culture and business climate.
Sixteen years ago, when I moved to Switzerland, I was stressed out, burnt out and full of anxiety. I worked as an entrepreneur in Switzerland in import and export which was in itself a tremendous challenge. It did not work out well and I soon realized that I needed to make a change in how I was responding to life. Thus began my journey.
Eleven years ago, I got involved with a training called neurofeedback to help a member in my family and became a neurofeedback coach. (Please refer to the neurofeedback section for a description) I took the opportunity to train myself with biofeedback and this is when my life really took a turn for the better.
Benefits
I experienced a fantastic clarity of mind, I stopped responding with negativity, my sleep improved, my physical reactions were quicker, my focus was better, I was less stressed and my anxiety decreased. Before this I was just functioning, barely. Many people were surprised when they learned that I felt a need to change and improve and others not. After, the change, people commented on how calm I was, which was a pleasant surprise. My relationships with people improved, most important, especially with my family. Generally, I looked better and felt better. Most of my clients who have committed to this program and training have experienced the same.
More Experience
I have been working as a coach for 11 years. I have worked with professionals, managers, business owners and corporate executives amongst others.
Four years ago, I came together with a corporate executive coach. We began work on the HeartSmart program. I was able to help put people in a better state of mind with the biofeedback, but I felt that people needed something that they could practice on their own, to learn how to keep themselves there.
Previously, I mentioned that we are not involved with anything that seems magical, mystical or theoretical. Biofeedback is basically a measuring device which acts like a mirror. It measures how we respond. We then use that same device to learn how to change how we feel and respond. Biofeedback, is a device that speeds up a process, like medication, that may take months or years to learn. Biofeedback ,is now used by many people in business who do not have the time.
Furthermore
In my coaching, I strongly believe that experience, both personal and professional is extremely important. If I am unable to understand you the client and your needs then I will not be able to help you. I need to be able to relate to what you have experienced. We work as a team so I need to be able to carry side.
I am very authentic and open. This is necessary, because my growth depended on honestly with myself and openness with myself about myself. I spent a great of time in my life not knowing who I was, what I wanted or just pretending that I was something that I was not.
Another key aspect of the change process is to ask for help. Often there is a lot of time wasted doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results getting no where. All, because I wanted to do it myself and not to be considered weak.
Conclusion
This is a down to earth program. You do not have to quit your job and become a monk. You do not have to change your life totally. The answers practical, simple and logical. I do not make guarantees but based upon my own experience, if you follow our simple steps, you will change and have peace of mind.
